While it can be a first thing in the morning to start your day with, the turmeric smoothie can also be a healthy snack between meals. So, it is totally up to you which way you are going to incorporate it in your diet.

There are many studies which have proven the beneficial effects of turmeric on the human brain and body functions. This Indian herb has antiviral and antibacterial properties which act as a detox agent to the whole body. So here are some of the health problems turmeric will help you with:

Turmeric contains bioactive compounds which have powerful medicinal properties
The compounds that turmeric contains are called curcuminoids, of which curcumin is the most important because of the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Curcumin blocks NF-kB, a molecule that travels into the nuclei of cells and turns on genes related to inflammation. NF-kB is believed to play a major role in many chronic diseases. Curcumin has the power that anti-inflammatory drugs have, without any side effects. In a controlled trial, which involved 60 patients divided into three groups, some of turmeric ability to fight depression has been noted. In fact for a period of 6 weeks, the first group of 20 people took Prozac to fight depression, the second group took a gram of turmeric daily, and the third group took both turmeric and Prozac.

The improvements that the second group experienced were similar to those of the first one, while the third group who were taking both turmeric and Prozac has shown the best results. From this study it may be concluded that turmeric is quite a strong anti-depressive, ranging high on the list, close to Prozac.

Turmeric Smoothie Recipe

To prepare the turmeric smoothie recipe, you will need the following ingredients:

½ a teaspoon of ginger
½ a teaspoon of cinnamon
1 cup of hemp or coconut milk
1 fresh banana
½ a cup of frozen pineapple or mango chunks
1 tablespoon of coconut oil
½ a teaspoon of turmeric( you can increase the dose to 1 tablespoon, according to taste)
1 teaspoon of chia seeds
1 teaspoon of maca powder
These are the instructions to follow, in order to prepare your smoothie:

Chop the banana, the pineapple and the mango chunks.

Put all the ingredients into a blender and blend them together until you get a homogenous content.

It is recommended to drink the smoothie right after you wake up, in order to get the optimal results of it.

That way you will get the necessary energy for the whole day.
