Our ancestors have used elder for decades to improve health.
It is one of the most healing plants in the world because it contains large amounts of flavonoids, carotene, vitamin C.
So far it is known that elder treats fly, clogged sinuses, bronchitis, asthma and allergies. Also, it has been proved that the juice of elder improves immunity and helps in diabetes and constipation.
Tea against cough
Tea made from dried flowers of elder cures persistent and dry cough. The tea can be given to children, but it is important that before consult with your doctor. All you have to do is to dry the flowers on a dark, dry place and so ground keep in a jar.
Lotion for sensitive skin
The lotion of elder does miracles for sensitive skin. Pour two cups of boiling water over 25 grams of dried flower of elder and cover. When cool, strain into a clean glass jar and refrigerate.
Clean the face using a piece of cotton. It soothes and refreshes the delicate skin. Lotion of elder should be used for three days.
Juice of elder
Almost all people prefer to drink juice of elder during the summer days. It is very easy to make. In 1 liter of cold water put 20 fresh flowers of elder. Let it stay in a cool place (but not in the refrigerator) for 24 hours. Strain, add 800 grams of sugar and the juice of 1 lemon and let it stay for another 24 hours. Stir occasionally to dissolve the sugar. Strain through cheesecloth and pour into bottles.
This juice is drunk diluted with water, and you can use mineral and carbonated water for the preparation of juice.
Black elder, a cure for cancer
One man from Bulgaria, amazed many people by claiming that it is a drug from the black elderberry which has helped him to defeat cancer. Elderberry grows around the river, and gives fruit that resembles a blueberry.
The fruits ripen in late August and early September. The fruit should be ripe to have medicinal properties. When harvest berries, wash them and put in jars, alternating putting berries, and some sugar, while the jar is not filled to the brim.
Keep the jar in a place where there’s sunlight, so that it can come to fermentation. After two weeks, the jar should be closed and put in the fridge.
You can make 2, 3 or 4 jars, but you must have at least two to have enough of this cure until next year. Eat at least 1 teaspoon every morning on an empty stomach, 10 minutes before meals.
